How-to-Measure:
Dress Code Formal (DCF) cannot assume responsibility for the size ordered or the measurements taken. The customer is responsible for the measurements taken and the size ordered. If you have questions on which size to order based on your measurements, our customer service team will be happy to help guide you. However, we will not be responsible if the measurements are inaccurate or for the size you, ultimately, decide to purchase.
| * | We suggest having a friend or family member take your measurements for the best results. It is difficult to measure yourself, especially if you do not have experience in doing so. It is not necessary to have a professional measure you, unless it is more convenient to do so. | |
| * | DCF recommends that you wear the exact, or similar, shoes and undergarments that you plan on wearing on the day of your event. | |
| * | Our full-length bridesmaid gowns are made with a hollow-to-hem measurement of 59". This is a suggested length for women 5'8" or under (with heels). We offer extra length on our special-order bridesmaid dresses. Our full-length evening gowns are made with a hollow-to-hem length of 61". This is a suggested length for women 5'10 or under (with heels). Please double check your hollow-to-hem measurement with heels. See below on how to measure your hollow-to-hem. | |
| * | Always remember that it is easier to take a dress in that is too large, than to fix a dress that is too small. | |
| * | DCF uses the English Standard System for all measurements and sizes. | |
A. Measuring your Bust
Stand straight with your heels together and arms down at your side.
Position the measuring tape so that it covers the widest part of your back and the fullest part of your bust.
Remember not to pull tight! You should be able to slip your thumb behind the tape with no problem.
B. Measuring your Waist
To find your natural waist, stand up straight and bend to the side. This bend is your natural waist.
Standing straight up, with your heels together, place the measuring tape around your natural waist.
Again, remember not to pull tight! The measuring tape should not be tight on the body. There should always be about 1-2" of ease between you and your dress for the best fit.
C. Measuring your Hips
Standing straight up, with your heels together, position the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips. This is usually 7-8" below the natural waist, but will vary from person to person depending on your body shape and height.
Do not pull the measuring tape tight! This is extremely important on the hip measurement! If the dress is too tight in the hips because you wanted a smaller measurement, we promise that you will not be able to sit.
D. Measuring Hollow-to-hem
Do not pull the measuring tape tight! This is extremely important on the hip measurement! If the dress is too tight in the hips because you wanted a smaller measurement, we promise that you will not be able to sit.
Remember to wear the same shoes you plan to wear to your event, or shoes of similar height, while you are taking this measurement.
Standing straight up with your heels together, eyes straight ahead, measure from the point just below the hollow of your neck to your desired hem.
If you are uncertain if you did this correctly, or your measurement seems off, you can quickly check by splitting the measurement in two steps:
* Measure from the point just below the hollow of your neck, to your natural waist. Make note of this measurement.
* Next, measure from your natural waist to your desired finished hem. Make note of this measurement and add to the hollow-to-waist measurement.
If the sum of these two equal your original hollow-to-hem measurement then you are in good shape. If the sum does not equal your original, then repeat all three steps again until your are confident you have gotten the correct measurement.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MEASURING TAPE:
If you don't have a measuring tape, and are unsure of where to get one, you can easily measure yourself with a simple string and ruler. If you are using a shoe lace or any string that stretches, make sure not to stretch it during the measuring process.
| * | Tie a knot to the end of any string. This will be your start measuring point. | |
| * | Use the string to measure your bust, waist and hips and mark on the string (with a pen or marker) where it meets back with the knot. | |
Now, you can take the string, put the knot on the 0" mark of the ruler and measure until your pen mark. This is your measurement. Again, make sure not to stretch your strings while you are measuring yourself, or while comparing to the ruler.
